A literatura e a política: um estudo literário do conto tempo de crise de Machado de Assis (1873).

Abstract

This article aims to make a reflection on the Political Literature. It seeks to reflect on process of political literary representation, reading Machado de Assis's Crisis Times (1873). The work turns to the unfolding of a ministerial crisis in the country's capital, from the fall of the cabinet to the formation of the new state. It's an episode where power and information are reduced to gossip and vanity, it's the politics at the bottom of the creep where random job back and forth is what matters. The story deals with the narrative of the ministerial crisis, with ironic speech and use of humor, characteristic of the Machadian style. Machado de Assis's interest in Brazilian society, history and politics is an essential condition for his greatness and originality. His texts have a close connection between literature, social reality and history. In this sense, the present will problematize the social-political relationship of the middle class, and the implications that these elements bring to Brazilian society in the late nineteenth century. Still seeking to analyze the game of personal interest and selfishness of the character as a political and financial favoritism and show how the Machado's narrative is a critical reading to the society of his time.
