Rinoplastia e Estafilectomia em Cão Braquicefálico

Abstract

The Supervised Curricular Internship was fulfiled at the Veterinary Clinic Mundo dos Bichos, Araguaína, Tocantins, focused on Medical Clinic and Smal Animals Surgery under supervision of Veterinarian Thamirys Pereira do Nascimento. The internship happened within September 14th and November 17th, 2021 with total 345 horas, under orientation of PhD Prof. Fabiano Mendes de Cordova. The presente report describes the local clinic, the activities developed during the Supervised Curricular Internship and its casuistics followed by the intern. Posteriorly it reports a case of a French Bulldog with brachycephalic syndrome, allongated soft palate and stenotic nostrils and the surgical techniques employed for the treatment accompanied during the supervised curricular internship. The brachycephalic syndrome that affects snub-nosed dog breeds comprehends alterations at the superior respiratory tract that results in symptomatology compatible with respiratory obstruction, abdominal breathing, snoring that creates constant discomfort to the animal and complaint from the tutors. The clinical diagnosis despite being simple to obtain, only a few times at the practical routine there is a follow up to the treatment, that consists on rhinoplasty to correct the nostrils stenosis and staphylectomy to correct the soft palate extension. After the surgical procedures the results include significant improvement of the clinical symptoms, noises, exercise tolerance and life quality to both animal and tutor.
