Abstract

This work deals with the subjective landscapes that are the great architects of the inner psychic life; Belonging to the field of sensibilities and representations, in the challenge of understanding the sentiments of the Italian priest Quinto Tonini in the exercise of his mission in the interior of Brazil. This missionary from the congregation of the "Little Work of Divine Providence" worked in the extreme north of Goiás in the 1950s. As a priest, Tonini was involved in a project of reform of the Catholic Church that sought to alter the practices and beliefs of the laity. His narratives are attempts to qualify the found reality, to construct representations about the places, the people, finally, to capture the life, the beliefs and the feelings of the local inhabitants. One realizes that it does not only deal with the past and its present, but also with the expectations of the future. In his book "Don Orione: Between Diamonds and Crystals" appears the concept of circular time, that is, this dialogue between the present, the past and the future. Most of the priest's sorrows are related to this perception of impotence that afflicted him in the face of the impossibility of reaching his expectations quickly, and at times he almost doubts the possibilities of the lay people's adaptation to the demands of the Church. Anyway, in his narrative he will configure the characters, men, women, children, young and old of the region. In this process, he also configures a missionary identity by revealing his actions but hiding his fears and passions. Anyway, here and there sprout your desires, dreams, strangers and frustrations.
