Acesso das pessoas surdas a atendimentos psicológicos no Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS) em libras

Abstract

Deaf people, just like the hearing group, may suffer from a number of afflictions that requires specialized care provided by psychology professionals, therefore it’s relevant to study about accessibility regarding the psychological treatment of the Deaf people on the public health system. This composition aims to investigate if the psychological treatment offered by the Unified Health System (SUS) facilities corresponds to the communications needs of Deaf people who use Libras, as well as (i) to know the legal grounds of public health, focusing on mental health; (ii) to research about linguistic rights of the Deaf individual in relation to the access on mental health care through the SUS and (iii) to analyze the answers collected via online forms concerning the access of Deaf people on paid psychological treatment and likewise on SUS, including the Psychosocial Aid Centers (CAPS). The methodology was from a quantitative and qualitative nature, bibliographic, documental and survey through anonymous online forms, with questions in Portuguese translated to Libras, asked to Deaf people about paid psychological treatment and also on SUS. Amongst the results, which were obtained by data analysis of valid answers from 22 people from different Federative Units of Brazil, are the lack of knowledge regarding this treatments supplied by SUS as well as the lack of accessibility in Libras on the system, thus their need for reaching out to family and friends, or pay for those treatments with a professional who is fluent in Libras. As possible strategies to overcome this, besides having an opening for interpreters to work on SUS, also include Libras as a mandatory subject in Psychology Graduation Schools, provide Continuing Education Programmes in partnership with Deaf Associations
