Clínica Médica e Cirúrgica de Pequenos Animais. FLAP Conjuntival Pediculado para Tratamento de Perfuração Corneal em Cão.

Abstract

The supervised curricular internship was developed integrally at the Veterinary Hospital Dr. Antônio Clemenceau (HVC), located at SAIS, s/n lot 14 southern sector, Brasília-DF. The period of internship occurred between March 6th and May 19th, 2017, totalizing 416 hours, carried out in the area of Clinical and Surgical Medicine of small Animals under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Tiago Barbalho Lima and supervision of veterinarian Juliana de Camargo Ribeiro Rosito. During this period, it had been possible to follow consultations, outpatient and surgical consultations in the most diverse areas, being the ophthalmological emergency and orthopedic surgeries the most frequently accompanied, in general, with the exception of oncology; it had been allowed the follow-up and assistance in the other areas existing in the hospital. During this period, 685 animals had been followed up, among them, 280 animals diagnosed in the medical clinic, 352 outpatient procedures and 53 surgical procedures in dogs and cats. The objective of this work is to report all the activities developed during the internship and to demonstrate how much the insertion of its practice in the daily life of the student is extremely important for an excellence professional formation, since it is necessary that the same one comes to confront the reality seen in classroom and the challenges faced outside. Still, to describe a clinical case of a Shih-Tzu, which was diagnosed with corneal perforation of the right eye due to the evolution of an ulcerative keratitis, which worsened after the owner cleaned the ocular secretions with Gauze. It was treated through surgical intervention where iridectomy, pedicled conjunctival flap, followed by third eyelid flap were performed. It had been possible to verify during the postoperative clinical follow-up the good evolution regarding the cicatrization of the lesion, being successfully concluded.
