A festa de São Domingos na comunidade Pinheirópolis em Porto Nacional- Tocantins

Abstract

This article aims to analyze The Feast of Santo Domingo in the Pinheirópolis Community, in Porto Nacional, Tocantins, in the perspective of cultural geography. As methodological procedures, we opted for a review on the theme of popular Catholic festivals and cultural geography and religion and interviews with people from the community, as well as participant observation. We concluded that when control of the feast went out of the hands of the community and went to the care of the church, the interest of the residents in participating in the preparations for the feast diminished, and when they did not feel theybelonged and were involved as subjects of the feast, the church, a fact that may have contributed to disinterest and in religion itself, leading many people to a change of creed.
