Herniorrafia perineal em cão: Relato de caso

Abstract

Perineal hernia in dogs is one of the most commonly diagnosed conditions in medical clinics and can worsen the patient's condition. It has a higher incidence in unneutered male dogs between the ages of 5 and 14 years, as they have a loosening of the pelvic muscles. This report describes a case of perineal hernia in a 10-year-old dog, weighing 7,6kg, male Shih Tzu, not castrated, with a previous history of chronic kidney disease. With final treatment, he underwent perineal herniorrhaphy and orchiectomy. The supervised curricular internship was carried out at the University Veterinary Clinic of the Federal University of Northern Tocantins (UFNT), located on highway BR 153, KM 112, rural area, in the municipality of Araguaína, TO, under the supervision of veterinary doctor Daiane Michele Frantz, in the small animal surgical clinic area between the period of August 14th and October 25th, 2023, resulting in a workload of 390 hours. The current report aims to describe the internship location, activities carried out, and the sample of animals treated during the internship period. Through the case series, it was possible to follow several cases from the medical clinic and small animal surgical clinic.
