“A gente não quer só canudo”

Abstract

The Brazilian public education has undergone cuts, weakening the tripod teaching, research and extension in the university. Add to this the conservative wave that plagues the country, bringing immense setbacks of political and social order. However, political subjects are organizing against this neoliberal offensive, in defense of a public university and quality. Currently in Tocantins, half of the Social Work presential courses are closing their doors. In other words, at such a difficult moment when we see a recrudescence of social policies in the country, we see the weakening of the formation of the Social Work professional. The struggle for a quality education and professional appreciation, as well as the understanding of the ethical-political project begins within the classroom, and in this sense, the Social Work Student Movement (MESS) needs to maintain its position as a historical protagonist in the social struggles of the country. After the Military Dictatorship (1964-85), the national student movement began to reorganize after the 1970s, after more than a decade of persecution and repression. In 1978 was held the first National Meeting of Students of Social Service, in the city of Londrina (PR). SESSUNE, which guaranteed the self-organization of Social Service students nationwide, broke with UNE in 1993, and began to be called ENESSO: National Executive of Social Work Students. ENESSO actively participated in countless important moments and struggles for the student movement, social achievements and the appreciation of professionals in the area, such as the reformulation of the Code of Ethics, the consolidation of the Ethical-Political Project, the approval of the ABEPSS Curricular Guidelines , against the expansion of EAD education in the country, among others. In Tocantins, more specifically in the Miracema UFT Social Service course, the MESS in 10 years also had several achievements, such as the opening of the internship campus in the city of Miracema and the surrounding municipalities, the realization and participation of ENESSO events, van from the internship to Palmas, openings of competitions and the consolidation of course on campus. The knowledge of the working class guidelines, a critical perspective on society and its antagonisms of class, diversity and breadth, the contact with several sectors of social movements and professionals of Social Work, are some of the perspectives that the student of Service Social will have engaged contact through MESS. The formation of the Social Work professional must articulate the ethical-political, technical-operative and theoretical-methodological dimensions, so the participation in the MESS provides the student with the engagement in its formation, in a critical way, with the professional project of Social Work. In this way, it is essential to articulate the academic formation to the trajectory of social participation in the student movement. Engagement with social struggles is fundamental for the construction of professional identity and a committed professional practice.
