Alimentação escolar nas escolas indígenas Xerente

Abstract

Introduction: The school meals offered to culturally differentiated groups of the national society need to take into account the appreciation of the food heritage. This paper aims to analyze the supply of school lunches in the Funil and Xerente indigenous lands, considering the socio-cultural environmental and health context of the Akwẽ-Xerente people. The purpose of the bibliographic survey was to search the main articles related to indigenous school meals. The search terms used were as follows: school feeding, school meals, indigenous food, National School Feeding Program (PNAE). The studies identified in the Scielo and Google academic databases without time limit. The studies were submitted to a screening process and eliminated by reading titles and abstracts. The selected records underwent a thorough analysis of the full text. The analysis points out that the foods offered to the Akwẽ-Xerente Indians are the same ones offered in the non-indigenous schools of the Tocantins municipalities, which needs to be reviewed, since the indigenous people have presented problems related to dietary changes, including Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. We conclude that there is little research on indigenous school feeding and, especially in Tocantins, this is an important and unexplored research field.
