Perfil dos bolsistas do programa Universidade Para Todos – Prouni no Tocantins: um estudo de caso na Faculdade ITOP

Abstract

Discussions about ways to enter higher education are surrounded by controversy regarding their characteristic of selectivity and social exclusion. With the publication of Law 11.096, of January 13, 2005, the percentage of vacancies destined to the garanting of scholars hips was regulated with the purpose of democratizing access to higher education in the country. In this surse it was established as a research problem: what strategies adopted by the PROUNI scholarship students to remain in higher education and, wats factores interfere in the access and permanence of these PROUNI scholarship students from ITOP Faculty. For this, the following objectives were defined: first, to know who the PROUNI fellows from the ITOP Faculty are and what these students do to remain in higher education. And, more specifically, to map the socioeconomic profile of PROUNI scholarship students, with active eurollments and frequencies in college; identify the strategies found by students to remain in higher education; to verify how the family interferes in the permanence of the scholarship holder in higher education. As methodological procedure through a qualitative analysis a case study was carried out, this chaice was due to the possibility of obtaining a deep and at the same time broad vision of a social unit, in this case the reality of the ITOP Faculty in relation to the scholarship holders of PROUNI. The sample consisted of 60 students entering the Programs in in the options of undergraduate courses offered by ITOP Faculty. The results pointed out de difficulties faced by these students who even as scholarship holders, are faced with the absence of numerous resources, not only of an economic order, but also social and cultural.
