Religião, Religiosidades e Resistências: A criação da ordem dominicana e sua territorialização nos vales dos Rios Araguaia e Tocantins.

Abstract

The territorialization process of the Dominican Order in the Valleys of the Araguaia and Tocantins rivers is narrated by several authors, each seeking to present the specificities and particularities. In this sense, this research presents the creation of the Order from that of its desreterritorializations in Europe, in Brazil and more specifically in the Valleys of the Araguaia and Tocantins rivers. Within this context, we will also seek to problematize the cultural resistance of the sertanejos and the indigenous people in the face of the strategies of symbolic domination of the Dominican friars who have territorialized themselves in the region. Starting from the analysis of several authors who discussed the history of this order and its symbolic disputes in the religious field, we guided the discussion in Rogério Haesbaert conception of territory and territorialization, as well as that of Marco Aurélio Saquet when discussing the cultural dimension of the territory. In the field of religion, we seek to dialogue, on the one hand, with Pierre Bourdieu in the dimension of the relations of symbolic power and, on the other hand, with Eliade in the dimension of the construction of the sacred as an element of religious control. In this way, it was possible to verify that the process of territorialization of the Dominican friars, based on a concept of exclusionary civilization, was involved in disputes with the secular clergy and suffered permanent resistance from the sertanejos and indigenous people who fought for the maintenance of their religious practices which were based on tradition.
