Cistite relacionada à hiperplasia prostática benigna em cães: relato de caso

Abstract

The supervised curricular internship was carried out in two locations, at Universidade Federal do Norte do Tocantins University Veterinary Clinic, under the supervision of the veterinarian Dr. Leonardo Vaz Burns, and at the Animais Centro Veterinário under the supervision of the veterinarian Isaac Avelino Pacheco, both of them were carried out in the small animal clinic area. The mandatory internship took place between March 7 and May 16, 2022, totaling 390 hours. This report describes the physical structure of the internship sites, the activities performed and the clinical cases monitored. During the internship period, there was the opportunity to follow several clinical cases, getting used to the routine of the medical clinic and eventual procedures of the surgical clinic in the area of small animals. During the mandatory internship, a 9-year-old male mixed-breed dog, not neutered, weighing 16.85 kg, was seen, whose main complaint was sporadic dripping of blood from the penis. During the anamnesis, an increase in urinary frequency was also reported, but with a reduction in volume. Physical evaluation revealed pain on abdominal palpation and focal hyperemia in the glans region. Due to the patient's clinical presentation, complementary exams were requested that suggested mild cystitis and benign prostatic hyperplasia (HPB). Treatment was performed for cystitis and also the treatment of BPH through the administration of finasteride for 15 days. Subsequently, the animal was submitted to therapeutic orchiectomy.Thus, the present work presents a case report on benign prostatic hyperplasia in the dog associated with a literature review on the subject.
