Mapeamento de escritores indígenas na literatura brasileira contemporânea (2015 a 2020)

Abstract

This research presents the mapping of indigenous writers, in contemporary Brazilian literature, detailed by region, from the analysis of catalogs of major commercial publishers throughout Brazil. For this purpose, all the publications of indigenous authors of literary works available in online format were considered. The research intended to consult and analyze catalogs in private and public publishers across the country; to identify works of indigenous authorship, individual and collective, of fiction genre, published in the period from 2015 to 2020; as well as to verify in which literary genres these works are cataloged by the publishers and the main themes addressed by the authors in their books. The theoretical reference for the thematic understanding was based on the Literary Studies area, with an approach to concepts and a brief history of contemporary Indigenous Literature, its developments in Brazilian Literature, identity and authorship. Furthermore, an exploratory and descriptive research was developed, based on a multi-methodological character, since a qualitative analysis of documents (catalogs of the main Brazilian publishers) and a quantitative analysis was carried out, by means of subject descriptions in the analysis. In the catalogs analyzed, as results, 42 (forty-two) works of fictional indigenous authorship were found. Also, in this analysis, the quantity of non- fictional works of indigenous authorship in the researched period was obtained. During the research and data analysis, fictional and non-fictional works of indigenous authorship published before and after the research period are also pointed out in order to draw parallels and support the reading of the data found in the study. About the literary genres in the works, it was found that they mostly comprise the narrative, poetic, and theatrical genres. Furthermore, the most recurrent themes, in general, are related to indigenous culture and identity, the environment, indigenous peoples, and cultural plurality. The mapping of indigenous writers, in Brazilian publishing houses, focusing on each region, showed that there are indigenous writers from various peoples producing and publishing in the Brazilian publishing market, however, it reveals a discrepancy in the publishing market when it comes to publications of marginalized and non marginalized literary works. It is believed that the mapping of indigenous writers was one of the ways for indigenous productions to be evidenced and for them to be present in diverse spaces of society, such as universities, schools, bookstores, libraries, publishers and virtual media. Thus, it is possible to contribute in a significant way to give visibility to these writers and, also, to emphasize the need to bring to the agenda reflective debates about the theme.
