Protegidos ou silenciados: as ações da Funai e a resiliência do povo Ãwa no médio Araguaia

Abstract

The Ãwa indigenous peoples, as they call themselves, are considered by the literature produced by the various authors who wrote about these peoples, as one of the indigenous groups that most resisted the intervention of the conqueror. Undoubtedly, their history is also marked by various conflicts, massacres and oppression. Thus, this research seeks to highlight, through a comparative analysis between the Ãwa indigenous groups of the middle Araguaia and the group currently located in the state of Goiás (in the upper Tocantins), the actions and measures that were taken by FUNAI, in the face of these peoples, both stemming from a contact forced by the Brazilian State, at different times and perspectives, although with disastrous consequences for all of them.
