Abstract

The work in question seeks to discuss education in old age, in the face of the challenges present in today's society. To a certain extent, it uses legal and normative instruments such as the and normative instruments such as the Statute of the Elderly Person and the National Elderly Policy to understand how the subject is thought of within the university, taking into account the experiences of the projects linked to the Pedagogy course in Tocantinópolis. of Tocantinópolis, such as the University of Maturity (2009 - 2013) and the Third Age Support Group (2017 - 2022). It also aims to contribute to stigmas and prejudices about old age, which still associate this phase of life with a set of diseases that lead to with a set of diseases that lead to physical and cognitive decline, thus generating disability. disability. Methodologically, the work makes use of bibliographical and documentary research. Research, since it was necessary to consult the basic documents of the extension projects extension projects described above in order to analyze and systematize the findings. The results of the study made it possible to see that the theme of ageing is in the Pedagogy course and on the Tocantinópolis campus, since the elderly of 2009, a fact that has given the subject strong expression at the university, resulting in a broad front of research and theoretical research and theoretical productions (TCCs - course completion works, theses, articles and reports). as well as in actions and projects of various kinds in both the Pedagogy and Physical Education courses. However, this research into ageing in the Pedagogy course is still ongoing.
