Abstract

The Mandatory Curricular Internship is of paramount importance for professional and personal growth, where the academic has the opportunity to practice the knowledge acquired during graduation, which is a valuable experience. The mandatory curricular internship was carried out at the Francisco Edilberto Uchoa Lopes Veterinary Hospital, belonging to the State University of Maranhão (HVU-UEMA), located in the city of São Luís. This was carried out in the Surgical Clinic area, the activities carried out were from March 7 to May 16, 2022, totaling 390 hours, under the supervision of Dr. Tatiane Avelar Ribeiro and guidance from Prof. Dr. Ana Kelen Felipe Lima. This document contains a description of the place where the mandatory curricular internship took place, in addition to describing the activities carried out by the intern and the routine casuistry. During the internship period, 171 animals were treated and monitored at the HVU-UEMA, in the small animal surgical clinic sector. This paper contains a case report on dorsal thoracolumbar laminectomy with stabilization of Schanz pins and polymethylmethacrylate in a domestic feline, addressing aspects of conduct, surgical intervention and post-surgical recovery.
